From Yahoo News:
Report: Fed. judge had sexual images on Web site
“A federal judge overseeing an obscenity trial exploring the extreme fringe of pornography posted explicit photos and videos on his personal Web site, a newspaper reported Wednesday.
Alex Kozinski, chief judge of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, said he thought the material on his Web site couldn’t be seen by the public, the Los Angeles Times reported on its Web site. The images included a video of a “half-dressed man cavorting with a sexually aroused farm animal,” the newspaper reported.”
(snip)
“”Is it prurient? I don’t know what to tell you,” he told the newspaper. “I think it’s odd and interesting. It’s part of life.”
The revelation about Kozinski came as opening statements were under way in the trial of Ira Isaacs, a businessman accused of breaking U.S. obscenity laws by distributing pornographic movies that depict extreme fetishes, including bestiality.”
From Xbiz:
Will Judge in Ira Isaacs Obscenity Case Recuse Himself?
“The judge presiding in the Ira Isaacs obscenity case revealed to the Los Angeles Times that he has maintained a publicly accessible website featuring sexually explicit photos and videos.”
(snip)
“Kozinski, a longtime 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals jurist, said that he posted the materials, which included a photo of naked women on all fours painted to look like cows and a video of a half-dressed man cavorting with a sexually aroused farm animal.
Kozinski said that some of the material was inappropriate, although he defended other sexually explicit content as “funny.”"

Perhaps the defendant can used the judge’s argument that his work was “funny” and that it’s “part of life.” Gah the hypocrisy here!
From SWOP-LV News:
A Lighthearted Tale of Sex for Money
“After attracting the highest ratings ever for an original series on ITV2 in Britain last year, “Secret Diary of a Call Girl” was imported by the pay-cable channel Showtime without change, an unusual import for a mainstream American television channel.
The series is based on a similarly titled book that grew out of an anonymous blog written by a woman who called herself Belle de Jour. A cross between a fake documentary and a light character-driven comedy, the program tracks the life of Belle, played by Billie Piper. Known by her friends and family as Hannah, Belle tries to navigate the line between her personal life and professional persona.”
—
Every once in awhile it’s annoying not to own a tv. I would like to check out this show. Ah well. It’ll go to DVD eventually and I’ll rent it then. Belle’s original blog can be read here.
From the Morning News:
Phone Sex Operators
“So much of commerce now is blind: online shopping, tech-support in Bangalore. We hope there is a person at the other end of the transaction, but it could be a machine; often the machine doesn’t seem very well programmed. The phone-sex industry, though, thrives on being faceless and intensely personal at the same time. Phillip Toledano’s new book Phone Sex (July 2008, Twin Palms) takes us into the boudoirs of nearly 30 phone-sex operators so we see their faces and also hear their stories—each operator gives his or her take on the business. ”
—
This book sounds good. I’ve got to get myself a copy! I’ll admit I would love to have participated in a project like this.

From XBiz:
Max Hardcore Jury Returns Guilty Verdict
“Jurors in the Max Hardcore obscenity trial have returned a verdict of guilty on 10 federal counts of distributing obscene materials over the Internet and through the mail.
His company, MaxWorld Enterprises, was also found guilty on 10 related counts.
“This is a sad day for America,” Hardcore attorney Jeffrey Douglas told XBIZ.”
—
Normally I’m happy that I’ve never had to do jury duty. But I would have loved to have been on this one. (Though I probably wouldn’t have gotten past the screening since I’m a sex worker.) I didn’t think his work was obscene and I still don’t. Is it possible for him to do any kind of appeal?

“It sort of feels like you’re embalming me but I love it.”
-new guy telling me how much I turned him on
Posted by Vixen as Quote Book at 11:43 PM CDT
After bitching about asshole clients I’m swinging the other way and praising the superstar ones. Mind you most clients are neither. The majority of guys who call me fall in a middle category of just being work. Sometimes they’re extra nice and sometimes they get nasty. But on the whole they’re pleasant enough and easy enough.
Superstar Clients (SCs) are the clients I count as my favorites. They are the clients that make PSO work worthwhile. They’re fun calls. After having a string of frustrating calls a SC call can turn my mood around.
How to be a Superstar Client? I have a few suggestions:
-Talk about real life
I also mentioned this in my my post How To Get Great Phone Sex. It’s amazing how 5 to 10 minutes of chit chat truly breaks the ice. Some of my favorite callers chat with me at the beginning of every conversation which lightens the mood and sets the stage for a fun call. We’ll share little snippets of our lives before moving into his fantasy.
If a PSO tells you some of her interests remember them. Nothing says you’re a good caller better than asking a follow up question about her interests. One caller always asks about my current knitting projects which delights me.
-Give details
Some of my clients will spend the first five, and sometimes ten, minutes of the call giving me fantasy details while I say nothing and just listen. I love this. The more detail a client gives me the better the call.
SCs not only give me general fantasy details they also give me info on their specific mood each time. Some clients like to do a different fantasy each call. Some nights they’re into spanking, other nights they’re into the big black cock. Letting me know what they’re in the mood for lets me give them a tailored fit fantasy.
-Be consistent.
Guys don’t have to call me every day to be a SC. Some of my favorite callers call me at least once a week but some call once a month and a few call every 3 to 4 months. The key here is SC call me regularly on their particular schedule. The best ones check in first and make a phone date for us to talk.
-Recognize this is work for me
SCs don’t try to date me. They recognize that we have a professional relationship. Can we be friendly? Sure. I’m friendly with my chiropractor. Every time I go for an adjustment I ask how his wife is doing. He asks if I’ve done any recent hiking. We get along but it’s still a professional relationship.
It’s the same for a sex worker. I’ve gone out to dinner with several of my clients and had a great time. But it was still work for me. Superstar Clients recognize this and respect it.
-Tip or send the occasional gift
Ok, this is a little embarrassing to admit. But who doesn’t like presents? It’s not a requirement but when I get a tip it feels great.
But it isn’t necessary. One of my best clients has never tipped me or given me a gift. But it’s a nice touch.
If you want to give a sex worker a gift ask her what she’d like first. I think amazon.com gift certificates or bookstore or clothing store gift certificates are the best gifts. I can get exactly what I want and, in the case of clothing, make sure it fits.
-Don’t try to give me screaming orgasms
When a guy tells me he wants to get me off I have to fight the urge to groan in annoyance. What this translates into is “I want you to scream and moan and act like you’re having porno orgasms over and over again during the entire call.”
These are the worst calls for me. Screaming and moaning for 40 minutes wreaks havoc on my throat. It makes it sore and makes my sexy voice sound gravelly. (It also annoys me because most women don’t cum like that. Yes we moan loud but sometimes we ooh and ahh, sometimes we heavily sigh, sometimes we bite our lip and make no noise because it feels so good, etc.)
None of the clients that I consider to be Superstar Clients have asked me to porno moan for the length of the call. Maybe some PSOs vocal chords can handle the strain but mine can’t.
-Thank me
Sounds so simple doesn’t it? But I don’t always hear it. Yes my wallet gets the real thank you but still it’s nice to hear. People like to hear they’ve done a good job.
-Say goodbye
This one is my little pet peeve. I hate it when guys just hang up suddenly, though I can understand why. Usually they’re embarrassed by their fantasy. What seems hot and sexy in Erectionland can seem freaky and wrong in reality to many of my callers. Still an unexpected click and poof they’re gone tends to irk me.
Saying a thank you and then a goodbye is a sure way to elevate yourself in my book.

From the New York Times:
Repairing the Damage, Before Roe
“With the Supreme Court becoming more conservative, many people who support women’s right to choose an abortion fear that Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that gave them that right, is in danger of being swept aside.
When such fears arise, we often hear about the pre-Roe “bad old days.” Yet there are few physicians today who can relate to them from personal experience. I can.
I am a retired gynecologist, in my mid-80s. My early formal training in my specialty was spent in New York City, from 1948 to 1953, in two of the city’s large municipal hospitals.”
—
This is a must read article for those that don’t know what the “pre-Roe” days were like. In college I learned about abortion’s history and became more pro-choice than I already was. Abortions will happen whether they’re legal or illegal. The above story tells of the danger of outlawing a procedure that will always be in demand.
Although really, I learned about it at a much younger age. Some of you remember the intense scene in Dirty Dancing where Patrick Swayze’s dance partner gets an illegal abortion. Baby fetches her physician father to care for her. Afterwards Baby’s father warns her not to hang out with that kind of crowd…erm right. Like I was saying, this is a must read.

From the L.A. Times:
Guerrilla gardener movement takes root in L.A. area
“Brimming with lime-hued succulents and a lush collection of agaves, one shooting spiky leaves 10 feet into the air, it’s a head-turning garden smack in the middle of Long Beach’s asphalt jungle. But the gardener who designed it doesn’t want you to know his last name, since his handiwork isn’t exactly legit. It’s on a traffic island he commandeered.
“The city wasn’t doing anything with it, and I had a bunch of extra plants,” says Scott, as we tour the garden, cars whooshing by on both sides of Loynes Drive.
Scott is a guerrilla gardener, a member of a burgeoning movement of green enthusiasts who plant without approval on land that’s not theirs. In London, Berlin, Miami, San Francisco and Southern California, these free-range tillers are sowing a new kind of flower power. In nighttime planting parties or solo “seed bombing” runs, they aim to turn neglected public space and vacant lots into floral or food outposts.”
—
I love the idea of guerrilla gardening. I was glad to see the L.A. Times compare this movement to the old Victory Gardens. Those gardens need to make a comeback. The Guerrilla Gardening site is pretty cool.

Subway Terminates Franchise Owner for Lewd Marketing
“A disgruntled Subway franchise owner, who was terminated earlier this month, has moved his sandwich shop and will now offer foot longs in the front and hardcore nude lap dances in the back.
In a brochure circulated around Westchester Square to attract new customers, Subway ex-franchise owner, Anthony “Vinny” Agnello invites customers to a subway sandwich and a lap dance.”

From The Times:
No ‘on-the-job’ training
“Bloemfontein’s Supreme Court of Appeal has upheld the conviction of a brothel owner for raping a prospective sex worker.
The owner claimed it was part of the woman’s “on-the-job-training”, but the court ruled that a woman’s consent to participating in sex work did not give a brothel owner the right to coerce her into having sex with him.”
(snip)
“Describing as “fallacious” the notion that, as an employer, Egglestone was entitled to have sex with the complainant because she was a trainee, Judge D Mlambo wrote in the judgment: “It amounts to a situation where the trainee employee, in order to get the job, has no choice but to submit to his sexual exploits.”
The court accepted the complainant’s version of events — that she took part in the “training” because she was forced to — and upheld Egglestone’s conviction, but reduced the 10-year sentence to eight years.”
—
From Monsters and Critics:
Cambodia implements zero tolerance of brothels despite protests
“Dozens of sex worker representatives will meet in the capital to protest the implementation of new laws which make brothels illegal, the groups involved said Tuesday.
Scores of sex workers have been rounded up and dozens of brothels closed since the government recently invoked new laws which workers say unfairly equate consensual sex with human trafficking.
Some male patrons have also been detained and ‘re-educated.’”

From Reuters UK:
Stripper tale becomes 9/11 novel for Dubus
“Best-selling novelist Andre Dubus III says he never intended to write a 9/11 novel but instead set out to craft a short story about a stripper.
Despite that, Dubus’ new book “The Garden of Last Days” became an epic novel featuring a 9/11 hijacker seeking comfort at a grungy Florida strip club just four days before he would make his dark mark on history in the September 11 attacks.”
(snip)
“Dubus weaves the stories of several people over the course of one foreboding night just before 9/11 — a stripper who takes her child to work, the anxious hijacker, a drunk patron tossed out of the club for touching a dancer and the landlady who was to baby-sit but fell ill.”
