Traditionally regarded as a children’s medium, puppetry is being reclaimed for adult audiences.
The lead was taken by a recent Broadway musical, Avenue Q - a naughty version of Sesame Street, complete with full frontal puppet nudity and risque songs such as Everyone’s A Little Bit Racist. And who could forget the sexual olympics of the Thunderbirds-style marionettes in Trey Parker’s Team America: World Police?
Nothing, however, can quite prepare you for the hilarious parade of sleaze and perversion that is Puppet Burlesque, currently showing at Fed Square as part of the International Puppet Carnival.
