Red Umbrella Day 2010

Red Umbrella Day

December 17th is International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers. Last year I went to my first event and I plan to go to another this month.

The feeling of solidarity that night has really stayed with me. The feeling of community and strength in numbers helps keep me optimistic when I read sad sex worker news that makes me want to cry.

One of the most common question I get is “I’m not a sex worker. How can I be supportive?” IDTEVASW is a great way to do just that. Check out Sex Worker Outreach Project’s Dec. 17th page for events near you. Can’t attend an event? You can donate to SWOP here.
