Momentum Con

Momentum Convention

While in NYC Diva and Tess told me about the Momentum Con they’re organizing. It sounds like quite the event! From the site:

“The phenomenal growth of online communication has given rise to an amazing amount of sharing, learning and experimenting with different expressions of sexuality, relationships and feminism. MOMENTUM provides a safe place to listen, discuss and learn about the ways the web has impacted our sexuality without the fear of reprisal or shaming. It is a space for acceptance and appreciation of diversity, including for those in the LGBTQ, sex-work, BDSM and non-monogamous communities.

During MOMENTUM we will discuss ways to bridge the baffling dichotomies our culture creates around sexuality. While on one hand we have unprecedented sexual freedom, on the other we continue to police sexuality with a frightening vigor. Abortion laws, restrictions on gay marriage, abstinence programs, medicalization of sex, fear of pornography and prosecutions for teenage sexting are examples of one side of the spectrum. The discomfort that strives to make us keep our sexuality hidden conflicts with the use of sex — especially the female body — to sell everything from food to cars to “performance enhancing” products.

Each participant will leave the conference with new perspectives, new connections, and a plan to carry the MOMENTUM forward into 2011 and beyond.”

The list of presenters is impressive-you can check that out here.

Holy Bible Purse

I won the coolest prize at Kink Academy’s open house during my NYC trip-a Holy Bible purse! ZOMG!

Holy Bible Purse

When the Kink people announced they were hosting a contest with prizes I hopped right up. I love prizes. It was actually a deepthroating contest. I can’t remember the woman’s name who gave a deepthroating demo before the contest but she was really good at it.

Now, many women don’t like admitting this but I’ll fess up-I’ve never been good at deepthroating. My gag reflex is strong. I’ve tried doing the toothbrush on the back of the tongue trick but no luck. The demo though proved really helpful. My trouble had been I was always tilting my head up when I should have been tucking my chin down. I never would have guessed that. We used bananas for the contest.

Holy Bible Purse

All the contest entrants won prizes. There were other goodies but when I saw the bible purse I snatched it up.

How could I resist? I mean really-the jokes write themselves:

New Definition Of O’Donnell

New Definition Of

From Jezebel:
Introducing The New Definition Of “O’Donnell”
“Earlier this week, we proposed giving Christine O’Donnell the Santorum treatment, such that we might assign an appropriate definition to “odonnell.” After soliciting your suggestions, Jezebel is proud to declare the new meaning of the word.

(snip)

From this day forward, in honor of the bigoted and nonsensical Republican senatorial candidate Christine O’Donnell, an “odonnell” shall be known as:

Odonnell n. \ō-ˈdä-nəl\
An unwelcome and decidedly unsexy thought that pops into an individual’s mind while they are masturbating.

Thank you, Chicka_Boom. A similar definition was shared by Gawdmail, who wrote:

Odonnell n. \ō-ˈdä-nəl\
The feeling of horror mixed with shame one gets while masturbating and inadvertently thinking of something which is the antithesis of sexual pleasure.
“I was having a quick wank and, suddenly, I had an odonnell image of Nancy Reagan getting a prune juice enema.”

Christine O’Donnell — the woman who claims she wouldn’t legislate against self-love, but says nonetheless that masturbation is sinful and shameful — is herself a total bonerkiller. So it’s only appropriate that her surname should come to stand for something disgusting that interrupts your thought processes when you are, to use Woody Allen’s phrase, merely having sex with someone you love. An odonnell is as unwelcome an intrusion as it would be if the esteemed Tea Party candidate herself were to burst into your bedroom, living room, shower, and/or other preferred location for flicking the bean/peeling the banana.

This is freaking brilliant! I just used the word Santorum today and will definitely be incorporating odonnell into my vernacular. If any of my readers want to give O’Donnell the LOL pic treatment send me a copy and I’ll post it. My effort is the pic above.

Kink Academy

Kink Academy

During my NYC visit Kink Academy held an open house at the same bar where the Sex Blogger Calendar party was hosted. I had heard about them but hadn’t checked them out much beforehand. This is a paid site and costs $9.95 a month. They have some free videos here.

The open house turned out to be a lot of fun. There were several presentations from some of their faculty. I arrived a bit late but still saw several presentations

The rough play was good and informative but I forgot to write down who did it. Argh!
Megan Andelloux talked about speculums
Her talk was very informative. I learned a lot about speculums and pelvic exams.
Professor Oni on the power of asking “why”
His presentation gave me a lot of insight. I’m asking “why” more on my PSO calls.
Latex and breath play-forgot who did this one too. Argh again.
Neither of these are my personal kink but it was still an interesting talk.
Graydancer did a “Tie ‘em up and fuck ‘em” rope demo
This was a fun and useful one. Graydancer is a great speaker-he really had the crowd engaged.

From their About Us page:
“The Kink Academy provides authentic and straight-forward sexuality instruction for curious adults. The consenting (and adventurous) individual or couple who is looking to take their sexual knowledge further, to explore their own fantasies, and to learn from experts who are passionate about helping you to improve your sex life!”

Two sissy maids and one sissy cheerleader were in attendance. I ordered drinks from one which was great because I didn’t have to wait and could get to the demos in back. The open house also served mini cupcakes-ZOMG! My favorite was the peanut butter and jelly one. I didn’t think it would be good but the cheerleader recommended it. And oh was it delicious.

News Roundup

News Roundup

From Reuters:
Waiter, there’s a potential carcinogen in my soup
“The exposure to BPA from canned food “is far more extensive” than from plastic bottles, said Shanna Swan, a professor and researcher at the University of Rochester in New York. “It’s particularly concerning when it’s lining infant formula cans.”

BPA is the key compound in epoxy resin linings that keep food fresher longer and prevents it from interacting with metal and altering the taste. It has been linked in some studies of rats and mice to not only cancer but also obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

(snip)

Even so, many parents remain concerned. Just what is an acceptable amount of BPA to ingest? Should we be knowingly ingesting a potential carcinogen into our bodies, even at minuscule levels? Why aren’t there better, cheaper alternatives?”

Why aren’t there indeed. I try to cut BPA out of my diet as much as possible. I’ve read some suggestions that BPA could increase problems associated with auto immune disorders. Is that paranoia, truth or somewhere in between? I don’t know but the more I read about BPA the more I feel it should be avoided.

From Gizmodo:
Get Ready to Be Groped Much Harder by Airport Security
“While turning down the full body scan has always resulted in a patdown, there’s a newer “enhanced” screening procedure that’s being tested at some airports if you opt out, like at Boston’s Logan airport. Here’s what’s it like described on Daily Kos:

Two (female) TSA officers stepped over to me, and gave me the new procedure, which included touching my face and hair, and in between and directly under my breasts. Much like a medical appointment, they explained the motions they would make before actually touching me, and both women were professional and polite about the screening - even apologetic about it - but I couldn’t help but think this was overly invasive overkill.”

Despite the creepy tone of the article there’s some gems in the comments-”In that case, I demand hotter TSA officials.” I detailed my recent flight experiences here.

One of my favorite comediansDoug Stanhope had this to say on his Facebook page: “If you’re legal - always say “I opt out” and pretend to enjoy the thorough pat-down like a deviant.”

From AntiWar.com:
Japanese Officials Complain as US Admits to New Nuke Test
“Though the admission received very little attention in and of itself, the US Energy Department conceded this week that it had indeed conducted a “subcritical” nuclear weapons test underground in Nevada last month.

The test was the first of the Obama Administration, and will likely spark further questions about the president’s much heralded “commitment” to disarmament. Yet in Japan, and particularly in the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the idea of continued nuclear weapons testing, even in limited forms, is of far more serious concern.”

I remember that “commitment” to disarmament as well. Such a disappointment. And the kicker is that US Ambassador Roos went to a Nagasaki memorial ceremony knowing full well this nuke test had happened. Gah the hypocrisy!!!

From CBS News:
Anita Hill: No Apology to Clarence Thomas
“Anita Hill is refusing to apologize for accusing then-Supreme Court justice nominee Clarence Thomas of sexually harassing her, in an issue that Thomas’ wife has reopened 19 years after his confirmation hearings.

“I have no intention of apologizing because I testified truthfully about my experience and I stand by that testimony,” Hill, now a Brandeis University professor, said in a statement released Tuesday night.”

WTF? Why in the world would Hill apologize? And why is Thomas wife still bringing this up? It makes me think she must have some deep doubts about her husband’s “innocence”. Hill’s involving the police makes me wonder if she received threats during her time testifying. There seems to be more to this story than what’s being reported.

The NYC Calendar Party Rocked!

NYC Calendar Party

The NYC Sex Blogger Calendar party was fabulous! It was such a delight to meet so many bloggers that I’ve been reading online for years.

Our cover girl, Nina Hartley, looked gorgeous. I only got to talk to her for a tiny moment because she was swamped by many, many fans.

I was humbled to get my own little taste of celebrity. Lots of people came up to me and asked me to sign their calendar. Thank you to all who did! I was quite flattered. Here’s me signing one:

NYC Calendar Party

At first I was tempted to write something like “kill your TV” or “buy guns while you can” with my autograph. But my picture is nature based and looks really spiritual (well to me at least). So instead I went with “Blessed Be” and “Viva Revolution!”

The raffle prizes were impressive. This is only a fraction-the entire table was covered in prizes:

NYC Calendar Party

As drool worthy as the toys were there were two stacks of books as prizes that got me really excited. I bought tickets myself but didn’t win. But I got a gift bag which was a prize in and of itself.

What an awesome night-Brandon B.was the first fellow model I met, hanging out with Mollena in the model balcony, talking to Jason-the guy who put the calendar together-he was so funny, meeting Bad Bad Girl who is all sorts of adorable, Matthew Lawrence who was a joy to chat with, chatting with Audacia about $pread, Lillith Grey, Luna-actually here’s a quicker way, the list of models. The majority of us were there which was quite a treat.

I’d like to send out a BIG thank you to Tess and Diva for including me in this year’s calendar! I’m honored, I’m humbled and I love being Miss March 2011!

Oh and if you haven’t already-BUY A CALENDAR! Proceeds go to the Woodhill Foundation. Members of WF were there and I got to meet a few. It’s a good group and could use the support. Plus this calendar is all sorts of sexy.

A Sex Worker In MOMA

While I was in NYC I was able to go to MOMA. It was exquisite! And there was a sex worker painting:

George Grosz

This is by Circe by George Grosz. It’s sarcastic and funny and certainly made me smirk.

I’d like to see a gallery of sex worker related artwork. That would rock!

Sex News Roundup

Sex News Roundup

From The Globe and Mail:
Judge decriminalizes prostitution in Ontario, but Ottawa mulls appeal
“A Superior Court justice gutted the federal prostitution law in Ontario on Tuesday, allowing sex-trade workers to solicit customers openly and paving the way for judges in other provinces to follow suit.

Justice Susan Himel struck down all three Criminal Code provisions that had been challenged – communicating for the purposes of prostitution, pimping and operating a common bawdy house.

(snip)

In her 131-page ruling which took her a year to produce, Judge Himel found that laws set up to protect prostitutes actually endanger their safety, forcing them to furtively engage in hasty transactions conducted in shady locations.”

Yes yes yes fuck yes!!! Thanks to reader Tinka for sending me this story. I read her message and then checked Twitter and the story had just exploded over there. I didn’t have time to read anything as I was about to leave for NYC. Things have settled down around Casa Radical and I’m finally getting around to reading news. Wow. This is huge progress. The story has a poll-should prostitution be decriminalized. Get this-72% are in favor. The times they are a’changing.

It’s not all good news though. The times may be a’changing but they change slow.

From Business Today:
RCMP crackdown on alleged brothels motivated by Ontario court victory: B.C. sex work advocates
“RCMP investigators are cracking down on alleged brothels in Metro Vancouver in the wake of an Ontario judge’s controversial September 28 ruling striking down a federal law forbidding living off the avails of prostitution in that province, according to sex work activists.

First came the crackdown on ISHQ-Vancouver. Then came police raids and resulting closures of massage parlours Serenity and Alley Cat, according to Susan Davis, spokesperson for the B.C. Coalition of Experiential Communities.”

From Information Liberation:
Federal Judge Known for Stiff Drug Sentences Caught Buying Drugs for Prostitute
” A 67-year-old federal judge’s wild relationship with a stripper started with a lap dance, prosecutors said, and quickly escalated into escapades of prostitution and gun-toting drug deals for cocaine and prescription pills.

(snip)

Camp’s relationship with the dancer, who was not identified in court documents, began earlier this year. A day after receiving his first dance, he returned to the Goldrush Showbar for more dances, and added sex and cocaine to his tab, authorities said.”

Gods that headline is poetry! The story just gets better. He was appointed by Regan. I love it when the news makes me laugh.

From AVN:
The Australian Sex Party Gets Registered in Victoria
“The Australian Sex Party has just been officially registered by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC). Party President, Fiona Patten (pictured), said that the party would now field candidates for both upper and lower house seats in the Victorian state election on Nov. 27.

“We are one of only 11 parties registered at state level, and by far the newest,” said Patten. “The registration process is rigorous and demanding, and our registration was only achieved through the committed efforts and generous support of our volunteers and supporters. This achievement by a party of our relative youth and size should send a clear message to the major parties that we are capable of making a serious mark on the Victorian political landscape”.”

I find this story entertaining. As much as I’d love to see major political parties reformed I like seeing small political parties gaining more ground.

From Erie Gay News:
New report reveals rampant discrimination against transgender people by health providers, high HIV rates and widespread lack of access to necessary care
“Transgender and gender non-conforming people face rampant discrimination in health care settings, are regularly denied needed care, and experience a range of health risks because they are transgender or gender non-conforming, according to a report of more than 6,450 transgender and gender non-conforming people. The National Transgender Discrimination Survey: Report on Health and Health Care was released nationally today by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and the National Center for Transgender Equality.”

Two statistics that stood out to me
“Nearly 1 in 5 (19 percent) reported being refused care outright because they were transgender or gender non-conforming.

A staggering 41 percent of respondents reported attempting suicide compared to 1.6 percent of the general population.”

I wasn’t surprised to hear that transgendered folk get discriminated when receiving health care. But getting outright refused?! What what kind of doctor/nurse turns down a sick patient in need? And 41% attempt suicide? Whoa.

Calendar Party Gift Bags

The NYC Sex Calendar party had 200 gift bags for the attendees. They were snatched up quick. For good reason too-they were stuffed full of goodies.

Calendar Party Gift Bags

Shortly before leaving for NYC I had heard of Whore Magazine but didn’t have the to research it. I was so happy to see a copy in the bag. It’s awesome and worth a post all it’s own.

Calendar Party Gift Bags

Other gifts included-bullet vibes, condoms, Tenga toys (which are neat but only one use-boo), erotic rubber bands, lubes, penis straw and lollipop, catalogs, coupons.

Calendar Party Gift Bags

I love getting gifts at a party-how fun!

News Roundup

From Raw Story:
Two arrested in anti-gay beating at famed NY gay bar
“A patron at the Stonewall Inn, a powerful symbol of the gay rights movement since protests over a 1969 police raid there, was tackled to the floor and beaten in an anti-gay bias attack over the weekend, authorities said Monday.

Two men were arrested in the early Sunday beating, which came little more than a day after a group of male friends bidding an affectionate good night to each other were attacked in another anti-gay assault elsewhere in Manhattan, prosecutors said.”

I heard this on the airport TV when I was flying home. It was surprising and unsettling. One of the things that I loved about NYC was seeing gay couples arm in arm just walking down the street, being a normal couple.

From Yahoo News:
First Christine O’Donnell TV ad: ‘I’m not a witch, I’m you’
“Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell is out with a new ad that follows one of the oddest campaign story lines of this election season. The tea party Republican, dressed in a black blazer and pearls, looks directly into the camera and really levels with voters: “I’m not a witch,” she says.

O’Donnell, who scored a major upset over Delaware Rep. Mike Castle in the state’s GOP primary, said in a past appearance on “Politically Incorrect” that she had “dabbled into witchcraft.”"

As a witch myself I find O’Donnell’s comments infuriating. I’ve watched the video of her saying she was taken to a “satanic ritual”. What the fuck?! I can’t believe that in 2010 people still believe/fantasize/wish that witches were satanic. Satan is part of Christian mythology and is neither part of Paganism nor Witchcraft. Listening to O’Donnell talk about her “witchcraft date” sounded more like a lame teenage fantasy. Does she get off on it? That’s my guess frankly.

Also from Raw Story:
Axelrod jokes presidential seal fell because of ‘witchcraft’
“During President Barack Obama’s speech to a women’s conference Tuesday, the presidential seal fell from the podium. A senior White House adviser joked Wednesday that “witchcraft” was the only explanation.

“You know we’ve been here almost two years, five hundred speeches probably, never happened before and I can only think of one thing… witchcraft,” David Axelrod told CBS’ David Letterman.”

Again, what the fuck?! Every few years Witchcraft/Paganism is hauled out as the media’s whipping boy. Is it time again? Sigh. What would the reaction had been had Axelrod blamed another religious group like Jews or Muslims? I’m sure there’d be quite the outrage. But jokingly blame it on witches and what-it’s somehow ok?! Grrrrrr.

Some days I just get on a roll with one site. Again, from Raw Story:
Report: FBI informant might have fired first at Kent State
“A forensic audio expert says a tape recording of the 1970 shooting deaths of four Kent State University students by Ohio National Guardsmen reveals the sound of pistol shots 70 seconds earlier.

The Plain Dealer reports Friday that the expert’s review detected four shots matching the acoustic signature of a .38-caliber revolver.”

Call me a conspiracy theorist (ok if you’re a regular reader you know I am) but I’ve always thought Kent State was staged. There was a plant that fired a shot to start the bloodshed. It sent a strong message-fight the police state and be killed-to the anti-war mood sweeping the country at the time.
